- Reversing the trend of recent years the aggregate area planted to vegetables rose in 2009/10 to 121,696 hectares, up almost 6% on 2008/09.
- Data on plantings by vegetable was limited in 2009/10 to five vegetables the smallest selection since records began.
- Potatoes were by far the largest vegetable planted accounting for just under 30% of the total area planted to vegetables.
- Potato plantings rose strongly in 2009/10 as did tomato plantings which rebounded to levels not seen since 2005/06.
